GENERAL MANAGER AND CHIEF WINE MAKER
Mike (Big Mike) is a 30 year Las Vegas resident and has extensive experience in facilities and maintenance management in the Las Vegas area and has been a small business owner for seven years. He held positions in facilities management at the exclusive Cascada Golf Club, and Southern Highlands Country Club.
He has been a winemaker for nine years and was a close friend and confidant of Grape Expectations’ founder, Charlie Peters. Mike graduated from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, Washington where he played basketball and majored in Marketing and Business Management.
He is a member of the American Wine Society, and attends winemaking seminars at the University of California-Davis conducted by the Department of Viticulture and Enology at the Robert Mondavi Institute.
He has gained hands on winemaking experience at the Wooden Valley Winery and Lanza Vineyards in Suisun, California, part of the famed North Coast AVA (American Viticultural Area) and seeks working relationships with winemakers and vineyard owners in Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington State.
He has formulated the important logistical support plan for the winery to assure the various stages of the winemaking process are affected efficiently and timely, which has become essential with the advent of the Chilean production in the off season.
He also facilitated the expansion of the winery’s offerings to include Port, Brunello and Barolo wines requiring specialized fermentation and long term aging techniques and wine blend classes.
Mike also attends the annual Unified Wine Symposium in Sacramento and other winemaking conventions and trade shows.
